Life Lately

November 20, 2018 by nikkidockery Leave a Comment

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a little life update here on the blog, so I figured I needed to do one!

Life has been crazy around here! The weeks just seem to fly by the closer we get to the holidays. Fall always seems to go by the fastest, which makes me sad because it’s my favorite time of the year by and far.

Our homeschool journey has been fun, interesting and definitely a learning experience for us all. We’re just about three months in and every day looks different. We’ve found a rhythm in that the boys understand now that we do school at home which was easily one of the hardest parts at the beginning. Now we’re really starting to see a whole new set of challenges.

Currently I’m dealing with Kaiden’s lack of confidence in his abilities and after having a super rough day this week that involved tears for all of us, I chatted with my homeschool yoda (a woman I go to church with who seems to always have all the answers and has been homeschooling her own children for over 10 years now) and she offered some really great suggestions on how to help him work through this. I feel incredibly lucky to have such an amazing support system in this homeschool gig.

How some of our days look like… not always rainbows and sunshine.

Our days never look the same as the day before it, but that’s okay. I’m starting to learn to release my own expectations of what I imagined this to look like, and what other people think it should look like and just be okay with what it actually is. Sometimes we do school at 10AM, sometimes 1230PM and sometimes…. even at 530PM! That’s the thing about homeschool. It blends into your everyday life, not the other way around. We work our school around our life. And especially the season we’re in with 3 boys under 5 (soon to be 4 who are 5 and under) I know this is the best decision for us right now. I’m also quick to say that I have no idea what the future holds and won’t sit here and say they’ll never to go public school. All I know is we’re trying to get through the first year and see what happens next.

Speaking of our soon to be 4….

I’ll do a full bump date this week, but we are really close to meeting this sweet baby! I’m just over 34 weeks now, and I don’t think a pregnancy has ever gone as fast as it has this time. I’m sure having 3 boys and homeschooling and working from home and doing all the things has a lot to do with it, but shoot! I was starting to panic for a bit because the room wasn’t ready, I still don’t have my bag packed, and for a long while I also had no idea where and how I was delivering this baby.

We went through a huge ordeal trying to figure out the best option for our family, but after lots of number crunching and researching, we finally found our midwife and birth center. This is also a whole other post I plan on sharing, but ultimately I am so excited about our decision to not deliver at a hospital and experience birth in a totally new to me way this time.

One of my best friends, Brittany, came over last week and helped me finish up the room, packed away and organized the totes and totes of clothes, and now the room is 100% done. The baby will be sharing a room with Carter eventually, and even though that’s far off in the distance I just wanted to have it fully ready before he’s born so I don’t have to worry about doing it with a newborn in tow! Thank you to my friend who swooped in and saved the day.

We hosted our very first Friendsgiving over the weekend, and it was a blast! If you don’t do this with your friends — you need to! It was so fun to have everyone over and celebrate Thanksgiving with them since the holidays seem to be more family focused. It was nice to get together with our friends who really feel like our family anyway! I wish our house was bigger so we could’ve invited more people, so we kept it to just a few of our very close friends. One day we’ll have more space to invite more of our friends. But this will definitely become a yearly tradition!

11 kids… under 6!

Not only is Thanksgiving coming up this week, but my best friend reminded me that my birthday is coming up next week too. I also just had to use a calculator to figure out how old I am. Clearly, I don’t give a crap about my age anymore hahaha. So this weekend me and a few of my girlfriends are going out for a little girls night before baby comes. Looking forward to a night out with my gals to just be adults & have some adult conversation!

This week is our this our FOURTH YEAR hosting Thanksgiving! When we bought our house back in 2015 we took it upon ourselves to start hosting Thanksgiving for our families. We felt it was time for the torch to be passed to us, so every year since, we’ve had it here. So this week we’ll be preparing our house and getting all the food ready for our family to come over. I love hosting at our house & filling our home up with people we love.

I hope everyone has an amazing week with their families! I have lots of fun holiday content coming at you guys next week, so stay tuned! 😉
