Some of our busiest times during the week include the days where we have co-op, field trips, swim lessons and our weekly library, grocery and errand outings. I always have my bag packed with snacks for the kids. Sometimes our days just kind of flow without having a concrete plan and I would find myself in the drive-thru more often than I liked because I was hungry from not packing myself some snacks!
So I started throwing a few things in my bag when we would leave the house to make sure I lessen the drive-thru trips (let’s save those for the really hard days when mom just can’t mom anymore) and to make sure I’m still making healthy choices while I’m out of the house.
Here are a few super simple on-the-go snacks that are healthy, easy to pack and prepare, and easy to eat while you’re out and about.
Healthy On-the-Go Snacks
Protein Bars or Shakes
One of the things I often throw in my bag is a shake or a protein bar to make sure I’m keeping my protein up. I always notice a difference in my energy when I don’t have enough protein in my body.
Hummus and Veggies
I love pairing some carrots or celery with hummus. It’s so quick to prep and throw in my bag and keeps me snacking on something crunchy while I’m out.
Another plant based food I’ve added in are these Pearls Olives to Go!®.They are literally made for snacking on the go. Throw one in my bag and BAM. I have a super tasty, easy snack when we’re driving to and from swim lessons or while I’m waiting at my son’s speech therapy. You can find them on Amazon! And they now have a couple new flavors like Taco, Sriracha and Italian Herb to put a little zing in your snacking. Even my 18 month old loves these! They’re perfect for the entire family.
Super convenient and simple to have on hand when you’re out to avoid grabbing a side of fries through the drive-thru.
I love having some almonds or cashews in a little baggie to bring along with me. Another easy snack that provides you with some healthy fats, but will keep your snacking in check and still provide some nutrition for you.
Fruit or Pouches
Yes, kids fruit pouches. Packed with lots of fruits (and / or veggies if you prefer those), these can give you a super healthy snack while you’re out with your kids. And even better I’m sure your kids love these too, so they’re a win-win for everyone! I also usually always have a banana or apple with me. They are easy to tote around in my bag if I need a quick snack and will always keep me fueled up.
Have you seen these before? They really help curb my craving for chips or something salty and crunchy. They’re dried peapods that are lightly salted and sometimes you can find some that have different flavors too!
