A little while back I shared a few things I wish I had known about giving birth and one of those things was how fearful I was of pooping during labor. Little did I know how important that actually is to my baby once he is born. You can read more about that here: THREE TRUTHS TO KNOW BEFORE GIVING BIRTH
Three Things You May Not Know About Your Baby’s Gut Health
As I’m about to embark on my third delivery, and my fourth child, I am thrilled that I know how important my baby’s gut health is BEFORE I have a newborn, and I truly hope I can help to educate other mothers on the importance of it. So here are a few things you may have not known about your baby’s gut health after they’re born:
The First Six Months Are Critical
Gut health in your baby is the most important during the first six month’s of their life. It really sets baby up life for immune and metabolic development — and the significant role the composition of baby’s gut microbiome plays in this process. Bad bacteria in your baby’s gut could put them at a higher risk of autoimmune and metabolic issues like colic, allergies, diabetes or obesity later in life. When you introduce more good bacteria in the gut, it creates a strong and protective wall to crowd out the bad bacteria.
If you’re able to breastfeed (in any way, shape or form), this will help give your baby the good setup for great gut health. However, it’s not the only solution and not all mothers are able or choose to breastfeed, which is where Evivo comes in which I chat about down below.
Know The Signs Of A Bad Gut
There are several things that can lead you to know that your infant’s gut isn’t healthy. Having a newborn is hard enough without having to worry about their gut health too, and honestly sometimes newborns are just fussy and irritable for no real reason. However, if your motherly instinct is telling you that something is wrong — go with it.
Here are a few things you can look for if you think your baby’s gut health isn’t where it is supposed to be:
- unusual pain
- trouble pooping
Again, some of these things could be just simply because they’re a newborn, but if they persist you may want to start looking into Evivo infant probiotics. I wish I had known about Evivo after I had my last son because it could’ve saved us a lot of trouble for several months. He had all of those symptoms and I ultimately had to reduce my own diet down to ensure nothing was passing to him during our breastfeeding sessions. However, had I had Evivo to supplement his gut, I am positive he would’ve done so much better, so much sooner.
Evivo is the first and only clinically proven probiotics for babies. Nine out of ten babies lack B. infantis, the only strain of good bacteria that digests special nutrients in breast milk and protects baby’s gut. B. infantis used to be passed on by mom during childbirth, but over the last 100 years, it’s been missing in baby’s gut due to increased use of C-sections and antibiotics, including those used for Group B strep (which I have had to receive during every delivery). This is where Evivo comes in. They are the only clinically proven probiotic to restore B. infantis to baby’s gut and reduce bad bacteria that is linked to a higher risk of health issues, now and later in life.
Gut Health Beyond Infancy
Not only are you #SmartAsAMother and want to provide your baby with a way to have a healthy gut as an infant, but studies have shownthat the use of the Evivo probiotic long term can have lasting effects on your child.
I can say without a doubt after we began to use Evivo (around 12 months of age) I immediately noticed a difference in sleeping habits, bowel movements and overall disposition. I was able to nurse my youngest until 17 months and truly wish I had known about Evivo prior to him turning one year old. I know it would’ve saved myself and my husband many sleepless nights with a fussy and inconsolable baby.
If I can share any words of wisdom as a fourth time mom — your infant’s gut health is so incredibly important and invaluable for the rest of their life. Set them up the best way possible.
Right now Evivo is offering my readers an amazing discount on their infant probiotics. Follow the link here: www.evivo.com and use SMARTASAMOTHER10 for $10 off the 4-week starter kit and use SMARTASAMOTHER20 for $20 off the 8-week or greater starter kit.
