Once I left my corporate job last year (and my comfy salary) I knew I was going to have to make some changes to my beauty and hair regimen. So I started scouring the Target makeup aisles for some things I could swap out and reduce the cost of my daily makeup routine.
My day-to-day makeup is pretty simple. I keep it very basic and classic, but always like having a “face on” as it just makes me feel better and feel like I can conquer my day. And little did I know that I would need that even more so once becoming a stay-at-home-mom where the only people you are seeing on the regular are your tiny coworkers. But even still, 98% of the time, I will put on my makeup every morning simply because I like to wear it! And just because sometimes I may not leave the house, doesn’t mean I can’t get ready for the day.
Budget Friendly Makeup Hacks
So on to the budget beauty hacks I’ve found!
Bronzer + Setting Spray
I have used MAC’s bronzer for years now. I love it. But it’s expensive. Usually $22-25 a pop. I go through a lot of bronzer because I spray tan and just love to be tan year round, so I tend to go through a lot of bronzer keeping my face the same color as the rest of my body. When a previous co-worker introduced me to Wet n’ Wild’s new bronzer I knew my life had changed. BIG TIME. This stuff is AMAZING. When used with a good setting spray, this stuff is just as good as the top of the line bronzers out there. I have never been more impressed with a W&W product before. I’ve been using it for about two years now and will continue to rave about it. For only $3.99 at Target you can’t beat it.
To make a more budget friendly bronzer stick though? You need a good setting spray. This Milani “Make It Dewy” setting spray is my favorite with the NYX Professional Dewy Spray a second runner up. With both of these products you are sure to keep that face looking good all day!
My favorite eyeliner is a liquid eyeliner pen from Smashbox (tied only with Stila’s version). I am obsessed with that eyeliner. It is super simple to use and apply, not to mention it stays on forever. I’ve never had issues with it leaking onto my upper eye lids or fading away. The downside is it’s $22 per eyeliner pen. Pricey when you’re livin’ on one income. I recently found an awesome replacement. Now this stuff is NOT on the level of Smashbox’s product. But considering what the price tag is – it definitely gets the job done and hasn’t failed me yet as far as duration purposes are concerned. e.l.f. has two different ones I’m loving – the precision liquid eyeliner if you’re pretty good at freehanding it or the Intense Ink Eyeliner pen. They can be found at Target — both for just $3!
I’ve never been too much into high dollar mascara, so I’m pretty much the queen of drugstore finds. This is my favorite mascara by and far. It’s thick, makes your lashes look amazing and is under $7 at Target. It’s usually my final touch to my daily makeup routine, and you can’t beat it for this price!

Foundation + Blush
I know, I know. You’re probably thinking the last thing I want to skimp on is foundation, however, let me tell you that the price tag on this foundation is NO indication on the quality. I’m telling you e.l.f. is KILLING it on the budget makeup front. I am loving this foundation and blush combo. The foundation hits you for $6 and the blush is just $4. The foundation is a really great all-day coverage, but has a great texture and doesn’t feel thick on your face. And the highlighter/blush combo leaves a beautiful shimmer with some color. Finish with your setting spray and it’s sure to be an all day affair with these products.
